Lithostatic fluid
Weblithostatic fluid pressure can be generated in any type of fault zones. When a fluid reservoir in a fault zone is temporarily sealed off from its surroundings, its fluid pressure may become equal to, or greater than, the lithostatic pressure [Byerlee, 1990, 1993; Blanpied et al., 1992; Sleep and Blanpied, 1992; Lockner and Byerlee, 1994]. Web1 nov. 2008 · However, the measured pore-fluid to lithostatic pressure ratio is typically in the range of 0.4–0.7, at least in the front 30 km of the wedge in western Taiwan (Davis 1983; Suppe 2007). This indicates that high fluid pressure may help but is not sufficient alone to cause the weak fault strength and generate tremor beneath the CR in Taiwan.

WebIf the fluid overpressure develops in the whole model, the effective differential and mean stress approach zero and the vertical and horizontal effective principal stresses flip in orientation. The resulting fractures develop under high lithostatic fluid overpressure and are aligned semihorizontally, and consequently, a hydraulic breccia forms. Web11 apr. 2024 · Fluid overpressures are widely expected during hydrocarbon generation and expulsion from source rocks, yet direct evidence for this phenomenon is lacking in the …
WebThese conclusions provide experimental support for prior field studies of exhumed subduction faults (French & Condit, 2024), which suggested that talc-rich lithologies would become important for hosting SSEs only under conditions whereby the pore fluid pressures approach lithostatic pressure. Web20 apr. 2002 · We investigate the pressure distribution with depth in regions undergoing horizontal shortening and experiencing crustal thickening both analytically and numerically. Our results show that, in a convergent tectonic setting, pressure can be considerably higher than lithostatic (the pressure resulting from the weight of the overburden).
Web22 aug. 2024 · First some definitions: 1 Lithostatic pressure — vertical pressure due to the weight of rock and fluid. 2 Hydrostatic pressure — vertical pressure due to the weight of fluid only. 3 Fracture pressure — the pressure at which the rock fractures. 4 Pore pressure — the pressure in the pores of a rock; usually close to hydrostatic. Weblithostatic fluid pressure can be generated in any type of fault zones. When a fluid reservoir in a fault zone is temporarily sealed off from its surroundings, its fluid pressure …
